 Student Safety First

Please help keep our students safe. Please do not use the staff parking lot for drop off or pick up. There have been reports of drivers using this area in an unsafe manner. Please use the white zone in front of the school for dropping students off and picking them up. This is a loading zone, therefore, you must stay in your car at all times. Make sure you give yourself adequate time in the morning to deliver your child to school prior to the start time. Students should have easy access to their belongings in the car so they do not need assistance exiting the vehicle. Please have your child exit on the curbside of the loading zone. If you would like to assist your child with their belongings, we kindly ask that you park in the designated city parking areas on the street and then assist your child. We thank you for your compliance. Student safety is our priority.

Brewer Island Elementary School (BIES) is looking to hire a para-educator 1-Student Supervision Aide. The position includes monitoring student behavior during lunch (12-1:15pm).  SSC/ELAC Nominations

Brewer Island is holding elections for our School Site Council (SSC) and English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) for the 2017-2018 school year.  We invite you to nominate yourself or others (with their permission) for the SSC and/or ELAC.

 The SSC represents parents, community members, and school staff in school governance. The SSC is responsible for the development the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), and overall school site budget including any categorical funds. The SSC is expected to:

•       review and analyze student data;

•       solicit community input and develop a needs assessment;

•       assist the principal in developing the SPSA and school site budget;

•       monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the SPSA on an ongoing basis; and

•       approve the SPSA and school site budget.

 The purpose of the ELAC is to advise the principal, SSC and school staff on programs and services for English Learners. The tasks are similar to the SSC’s (stated above) and also include ways to ensure parents are aware of the importance of regular school attendance.

Nomination forms can be picked up from the Front Office. Please return the completed nomination form to the Front Office between 8am-3:30pm on Monday, October 23 through Friday, October 27. If needed, elections will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017.
